According to the zeroth law of thermodynamics when two systems are in contact there will be a flow of heat till these two systems reach the thermal equilibrium.

The heat always flows when there is a temperature difference if there is no temperature difference there will be no heat flow and heat always flow from a hotter body to a colder body.  

Therefore, by the above discussion, it is clear that the temperature is a physical property that determines the direction of the flow of heat.
