In America, people in the south primarily agreed with slavery. Slaves provided the south with cheap labor, specifically on farms. People in he North were primarily abolitionists. This meant that they disagreed with and wanted to put an end to slavery.

People who were against slavery were most likely to settle in the Northern states.
