The standard form of a linear equation is [tex]ax+by=c[/tex], where a, b, and c are numbers.

You are given [tex]y-4=-2(x+7)[/tex]. We need to start by expanding and simplifying.

 [tex]y-4=-2x-14\\y=-2x-14+4\\2x+y=-10[/tex]

Some teachers, including mine when I took Algebra 1, require that you find integers (whole numbers) for a, b, and c, and that a be positive. Here, we are fine.
