"I hate careless people. That's why I like you." 

In the 'Great Gatsby', Jordan makes this remark to Nick after the two have arrived at a mutual friend's home.
Jordan was driving recklessly, almost causing an accident. There are other examples of her carelessness throughout the novel.
The irony in her saying that she hates careless people is that it implies that she hates herself.
